Ch. 6 Setting Out at Dawn by the Yellow River Once across the Yellow River, the southern bank is no longer the way home. Ch. 7 Reaching Black Mountain at Dusk The night wind of Black Mountain lets her hear the other side of war. Ch. 8 Sharing a Tent The brothers she shared a tent with become the deepest debt twelve years later.

Ch. 29 A Night in the Deep Palace What the court demands is not "filial piety" but "obedience." Ch. 30 Leaving the Court Leaving the court means returning the borrowed name. Ch. 31 Heading South Heading south, she says: Call me elder sister, no longer general.

Volume V · Return to the True Self

Twelve years living for others; returning home to give herself back one life. The last line of her father's final letter reads, "Live once for yourself" — and she truly did.
